Japan Grants Nearly $14 Million for Training Facility in Kampong Chhnang and War Awareness Building in Siem Reap

Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan has granted nearly US $14 million to the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) for the construction of a training facility at the Mine Action Technical Institute in Kampong Chhnang Province and a War Awareness Building at the Techo Santepheap Museum in Siem Reap.

Heng Ratana, CEO of CMAC, and Jun Kato, CEO of SATO KOGYO CO., LTD, formally signed the agreement on February 14, 2024, at the CMAC headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The construction at the Kampong Chhnang Mine Action Technical Institute will include: a meeting hall with a capacity of 400 people, a school building with two floors and 10 rooms, two dormitories accommodating 120 trainees, a restaurant building, and essential equipment such as computers, televisions, study materials, desks, and chairs.

The Techo Santepheap Museum in Siem Reap will feature a unique design: a square base measuring 108 meters by 108 meters and a circular top with a diameter of 52 meters. Standing at two floors high and 17 meters tall, covering more than 15,000 square meters, it will be the world's largest building shaped like an anti-personnel mine.

This museum aims to become a national heritage site, showcasing to both domestic and international audiences the significant efforts of former Prime Minister Hun Sen to end the war in Cambodia and establish lasting peace for the country and its people.
